Ginanggang is the Dabawenyos Favorite Snack

GINANGGANG. Photo from shuttercravings.com

The "Ginanggang" or grilled skewered banana is a favorite snack of Filipinos especially the Dabawenyos. A kind of food where an unripened banana is grilled and coated with margarine and sugar. A healthy food to eat instead of those processed snacks bought in sari-sari  stores. Often times, these are just displayed and available as a street food. The price cost will range averagely from Php 5.00 to Php 7.00. A nutritious and a very affordable delicacy that will surely satisfy your cravings.

It was known that this way of serving banana originated in Mindanao. But not knowing the specific place or city where it began. Actually, there is what we called a "Ginanggang Festival" held every May 2, in honor to San Isidro, at Barangay Poblacion, Tubod, Lanao Del Norte (Somewhere in the Northern Mindanao). Though, there was no claim that it really originated there.

Naturally, the banana is packed with healthy benefits. Study suggests that unripened banana is much better than the ripe one due to its sugar level content. The banana plays a big role in dietary plan for those people who wanted to be fit. This is also an energizer for it is a good source of potassium. Banana is not just about contributing to the physical attribute of a person but also to the brain. As it has a lot of Vitamin B contents.

Furthermore, Filipinos nowadays are very conscious to their health and to their figure. This is mostly because we are influenced by foreign celebrities' dietary habit and physique.

So what can I advice? Eat Ginanggang...

Davao's Most Expensive Coffee

Civet espresso beans
Do you know that Davao produces the world’s most expensive coffee called Civet Coffee?

These espresso beans are gathered not from trees but rather from the droppings of the nearby Asian palm civet (Paradoxorus philippinensis) called the Philippine civet "cat" which in the wake of biting and gulping the ripest and sweetest espresso fruits produces what has been named as the world's most costly and pined for espresso assortment.
Philippine Civet cat
The Philippine civet "cat" is not really a cat of the feline family, but rather of the family Viverridae of Africa and Asia, a nighttime cat like creature that has a place with the mongoose family and is particularly characterized under Asian Palm Civets having butt-centric aroma organs that emit a liquid with a musky smell which is even utilized as a part of the produce of aromas. It is a closer relative of the African and Central Asian mongoose, and it nearly looks like the weasel of the Americas. Its nearby names are "Alamid" or "Musang" in Tagalog and Southern Luzon, "Balos" in Davao del Sur and South Cotabato's vernacular, and "Motit" in Ilocano.

Why does Civet Coffee taste so good?

The Philippine civet "cat" uses its nose to pick the ripest and sweetest espresso fruits and perseveringly eats them amid espresso season. The creature processes just the mash of the beans which goes through the civet's stomach related tract and actually matures the beans in its stomach related framework where compounds separate a portion of the proteins, delivering beans of low acridity and in this way bringing about an extremely smooth, considerably less acidic blend. The procedure is extremely characteristic and one may state, it is exceptionally "natural"!

The droppings are normally reaped by hand from the estate floor, and the beans are then tidied up, air dried for a few days, and broiled to create the novel taste and smell.

Dissimilar to all other espresso, the Civet Coffee has no intense taste. It delivers a delicate to sharp smell yet its appealing scent is extremely particular and one of a kind. The power of its dim chocolate-like smell is smooth to the point that it possessed a flavor like an aged plum with hazelnuts.

Mt. Apo Civet Coffee

The Mount Apo Civet Coffee and Mt. Apo Altura Coffee beans which were perceived with unique excellence amid the current Food and Hotel Thailand Show in Bangkok, are likewise accessible at the Davao Crocodile Park which Mr. Dizon additionally claims, in keepsake shops at the Davao International Airport, Dizon Farms at Rizal Street, Hotel Galleria, Villa Margarita, and D'Leonor Hotel.
